James Morris Brown

April 16, 1943 - November 13, 2020

James Morris (Papa) Brown, 77, of Weimar, Texas, passed away on November 13, 2020 at his home in Weimar, TX. He was born on April 16, 1943 in San Antonio, TX to Jesse and Ruth Brown. He lived his young life in Tyler, TX and South Houston, TX. where he met and married his High School Sweetheart, Grace Lay. They married on January 26, 1962 in the home of William T. and Marie Lay, Gracie's parents. The following January they had their first child, James Michael. Shortly after came Michele, Melinda and Misty. He worked hard to provide for his family and made sure that they had all that they needed.

James was an electrician by trade and worked his entire adult life in that field. He taught his son, son-in-laws and his grandsons the skill as well. He was well known for his skill and lived up to his work ethic. He moved his family to Weimar, TX in 1982 to move his family out of the city. At that time, he worked for Rigmaster. After the closing of Rigmaster he and his brother-in-law, Richard Lay, started their own construction business. He wasn't afraid to work and his work was top notch. He made sure of it. He taught his children and anyone he came in contact with the meaning of "an honest day's pay for an honest day's work". He lived by this and it was evident. He was very involved in coaching Little League baseball, football, basketball and softball and loved sports. He was a big Jersey Village Falcon and Weimar Wildcat fan! He loved watching and cheering his children, grandchildren and a few great grandchildren on to victory! He loved to tell jokes and he was the life of the party!! Also, when there was a not so happy occasion he would always make us feel like it would be ok! Together he and mom made a life for themselves and their family that would include respect and love. He built with his own hands the home in Weimar where his family spent many many hours together enjoying each other and just being a family. Never a doubt in our minds that we weren't loved or taken care of.

James was a member of West Oaks Church of Christ in Columbus where he was a fill-in preacher for several years. His love for the Lord led him to what he worked for the majority of his life.

Dad enjoyed family time more than anything. He enjoyed when everyone came together for the holidays or just for a couple hours during the week! His family was everything to him.

James is survived by his children; son, Mike Brown and wife Kim of Yoakum, TX; daughters, Michele Vacek and husband Mike, Mindy Ramirez and husband Dino, and Misty Mican and husband Troy all of Weimar, TX; grandchildren, Trevor and Trent Brown, Kayla Boening, Alicia Lanik, and Trevor Fikac, Amanda Mueller, Taylor and Shelby Vacek, Ashlea Heffner, Logan and Makaila Ramirez, Madison Firkins, Malarie and Taitlyn Mican; great grandchildren, Braden and Brynlee Mueller, Sloan Johnson, Dallas Houston, Gracie Belle and Cohen Heffner, Wranger Ramirez, Cooper and Knox Boening, Lainey and Layton Lanik; and numerous nieces and nephews; sisters Patricia Saulsbury of Weimar, Juanell Brown of Denver, Colorado; brother-in-laws, Mike Saulsbury of Weimar, TX, Robert Taylor of New Braunfels, TX, Richard Lay and wife Ginger of South Houston, TX; brother-in-law, Billy Simons of Pasadena, TX.

He was preceded in death by his wife Grace Brown; parents Jesse and Ruth Brown, and sister Donna Taylor.
