Marvin Gerhard Brod

February 14, 1950 - November 2, 2020

Marvin Gerhard Brod passed away peacefully on November 2, 2020, after a courageous fight against prostate cancer. He was born on February 14, 1950 to Reinhard and Lucile (Weishuhn) Brod in Columbus, Texas. He attended Bernardo School and graduated from Columbus High School in 1968. He continued his education by attending Wharton County Junior College, graduating in 1970 with an Associate Degree in Applied Science. He married Frances Williamson on January 9, 1971 and they were blessed with two children, Kristien and Jordan.

Marvin and Frances moved to Austin, Texas where he was employed by the Texas Highway Department Bridge Division as a draftsman. In 1978, he was offered the opportunity to move back to Bernardo and work at Smith Industries, Inc. Columbus Plant as a designer. He continued working for Smith Industries, Hanover and Exterran for 37 years, retiring in 2015 as the Columbus Plant Staff Engineer. After retirement, Marvin was a consultant doing oil and gas equipment design and inspection with K Ingenious Consulting.

Marvin was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church and Bernardo Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years, serving as its Secretary-Treasurer for 30 years. He was a member of St Paul's church council, volunteered at the St. Roch's Catholic Church picnics, and enjoyed barbequing with his brother at Bernardo Bear baseball games. Marvin helped coach his children's baseball and softball teams and loved family gatherings, large and small.

During his retirement, Marvin continued working with his cattle, baling hay, and building projects with wood and metal. He enjoyed supporting his children and grandsons by attending sports events, 4H projects, concerts and anything they were involved with. Marvin and Frances enjoyed maintaining the family ranch, Peach Creek, in Gonzales County. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, checking and working cows, fishing, hunting, and just by having them around.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reinhard and Lucile Brod, brother-in-law Ray Braden, and sister-in-law Beverly Brod.

He is survived by his wife Frances, children Kristien Brod, of Bryan, Jordan Brod and wife Christie, of College Station, grandsons Dylan and Clayton Brod, of College Station. Brothers, Karen Brod and wife Bobbie, of Bernardo, and Cecil Brod, of El Campo, sisters Hazel Braden, of Mentz, and Irene Morgan and husband Bob, of Katy, along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas and at church Friday, November 6, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

Funeral service will be Friday, November 6, 2020 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus, Texas with Pastor Alan Kethan officiating. Burial will be in St. Roch Catholic Cemetery in Mentz, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers: godsons - Troy Brod, Jake Brod and Josh Brod; nephews - Lynn Braden, Kent Brod and Kent Fowler. Honorary pallbearers: Kristien Brod, Jordan Brod, Christie Brod, Dylan Brod and Clayton Brod.
