Elsie A. Ashorn

April 10, 1925 - September 13, 2020

Elsie A. Ashorn, age 95, passed away in Columbus, Texas on September 13, 2020. She was born to Louis O. Muenzler and Bertha (Graeter) Muenzler in New Ulm, Texas on April 10, 1925. She married Riley D. Ashorn on September 14, 1946.

Elsie grew up in New Ulm, Texas. She graduated from Columbus High School. Elsie enjoyed many years as a mother and homemaker in Columbus, Texas. As her children got older, she worked as a bookkeeper/accountant at S K Seymour Lumber Company and in the loan department of Colorado County Federal Savings and Loan Association. Elsie also had many pets during her lifetime and was an avid cat lover. Above all, she loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them.

Elsie was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was involved with the Mary & Martha Circle at church.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Louis & Bertha Muenzler; husband, Riley D. Ashorn; sisters Ruby M. Jecmenek and Esther A. Neumann; and brothers Harry L. Muenzler and Walter A. Muenzler.

Elsie is survived by her children Karen (Dale) Nixon of Dallas, Texas; Deborah Bennett of Rochester, New York and Stephen (Barbara Lentz) Ashorn of Reno, Nevada. Also, she is survived by her grandchildren Brady (Shanna) Bennett, Jessamy (BJ) Comer, Jacqueline Nixon and Kimberly Nixon; her great grandchildren Justin Comer, Shaelyn Bennett, Robyn Comer, Kiley Nixon and John Riley Bennett and her nieces and nephews.

A public visitation will be Friday, September 18, 2020, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas.

A family graveside service at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery will be Saturday, September 19, 2020, at 10:00 AM with Pastor Alan D. Kethan of St Paul Lutheran Church of Columbus, Texas officiating.
