Joe Robert Blackburn, Joe Bob, Daddy Joe, 76, passed away on September 10, 2020 at his home in Columbus, TX.

Joe was born in Lubbock, TX on September 1, 1944 to parents Clarence and Geneva Blackburn. He was a graduate of Texas Tech University and South Texas College of Law. After his service in the Army as a military intelligence specialist, where he earned a bronze star medal, he practiced law in Houston. Joe was a life-long boy scout, became an Eagle Scout and earned the Silver Beaver award in 1994. He loved everything outdoors- except snakes. Joe was a prolific reader, passionate storyteller, an avid pocketknife collector and lover of all Native American artifacts.

Joe is preceded in death by Father Clarence Blackburn and nephew Kelly Dale.

Joe is survived by children Megan Sullivan and Amanda Hafner and husband Daniel; sister Ann Dale; Mother Geneva Blackburn; longtime companion Betty Dawkins and their dog Grace Marie; several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and special friends including Marilyn and Charlie Beal.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Boy Scouts of America foundation, www.bsafoundation.org or to an animal shelter of your choice.

A wise man (Joe) once said.... "Puppy dogs and peach seeds dear; always remember when a puppy dog eats a peach seed they shake a little and the seed passes; that is the way life is."
