V. Leighanne Brechin

January 6, 1965 - January 28, 2020

Vivian Leighanne Ward Brechin was born on January 6, 1965 in Port Lavaca, Texas to Bob and Georgia Ward. She graduated from Cuero High School in 1983 after spending her Senior year in South Africa as a Rotary exchange student. She graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas in 1987.

Leighanne got married to her college sweetheart on April 20, 1991. She attended Perkins School of Theology in Dallas graduating with a Masters of Divinity in 1995. She was ordained an Elder in Full Connection in the United Methodist Church in 1998. She served as a solo pastor of First United Methodist Church (FUMC) in Yorktown, Texas from 1995-2000 and Aldersgate UMC in San Antonio, Texas from 2000-2004. In 2004 she went on family leave in order to spend time with her two daughters Alicia born in 2002 and Carolina in 2004. She returned to active ministry serving at Somerset UMC in Somerset, Texas 2006-2010, FUMC in Sabinal, Texas from 2010-2015, and finally Industry UMC from 2015-2020. She was very active in Emmaus, Chrysalis, and UMW groups.

Leighanne loved music, country dancing (waltz and two step), her cats, and traveling. She had a servant's heart and volunteered for various missions including Habitat for Humanity, Hurricane Katrina recovery, and Mission Devine. She left her mark on every church that she served and was loved by many. Her gentle soul came out when she celebrated with the youth and visited the elderly. When she would laugh and smile you could tell that she was really happy and she had a playful side that would appear every now and then. Leighanne loved to be with the trees and nature, especially in the Canadian Rocky Mountains and the Smoky Mountains preferably in a cabin with a fireplace.

Leighanne is survived by her loving parents Bob and Georgia Ward of Victoria, Texas, her sister Renea Ward Laredo and her husband Saul Laredo in Rowlet, Texas, and her loving husband Mark of 28 years and her children Alicia and Carolina.

Memorial service will be Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 4:00 PM at Industry United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Industry United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 86, Industry, TX 78944 or you can plant a tree in her honor.
