Weldon "Skip" Vail

September 30, 1943 - February 2, 2019

Weldon "Skip" Vail, 75, passed away on February 2, 2019 in Columbus, TX. He was born on September 30, 1943 in Lake Charles, LA to Fred and Betsy (Rosfeld) Vail.

After earning a bachelor's degree from McNeese University in Lake Charles, he then attended Texas A&M for 2 years. He then moved back to Lake Charles and taught agronomy and animal science at McNeese for 3 years. After that he moved to Columbus and was a ranch manager for Harris Farms for 3 years. He then became the superintendent for the city of Houston Parks Department for 11 years. After that he was a rancher and cattleman. He loved to fish, enjoyed woodworking, and listening to cowboy music. He met Doreen Bryson at Heffley's Feed Mill and they married on January 31, 1981.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents, sister Judy Milner and brother Larry Vail.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years Doreen Vail; daughters Lori Vail of Canandaigua, NY, Teri Vail of Columbus, TX and Jennifer Cruz (Jaime) of Columbus, TX; son Stephen Nelson, Jr. of Columbus, TX; grandchildren Kellen, Seth and Piper Lambert-Vail, Damion and Rayden Cruz, and Sadie and Zak Nelson, numerous nieces and nephews and the mother of his children Betty Vail.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 12:00 Noon at Glidden Baptist Church with John Adams officiating.

Memorials may be given to Glidden Baptist Church or charity of your choice.
