Ruby Mae Koehl Litzmann

November 24, 1927 - December 13, 2018

Ruby Mae Koehl Litzmann of Alleyton, Texas, passed away on December 13, 2018, in Columbus, Texas, at the age of 91. She was born to Rudolph and Anastasia (Zaskoda) Koehl on November 24, 1927, in Columbus, Texas. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1944 where she was a Drum Major. She married Elton William Litzmann on May 10, 1948, in Columbus.

Before her marriage, Ruby attended the Massey Business College in Houston. Upon her return to Columbus, she was employed for several years with Columbus State Bank. It was at the local Lions Club Carnival that Ruby met her husband Elton; they married and enjoyed 58 years of marriage. Ruby continued to work at the bank after her marriage to Elton; however, with the birth of their children, Ruby became a homemaker. In 1967, Elton was transferred with his job at Shell Oil to Angleton, Texas, where the Litzmanns resided until returning to make a home on Ruby's family acreage in Alleyton, Texas, in 1980.

Upon her return to the area, Ruby and Elton became long time members of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, where she joined and was an active member of the Altar Society, even taking a turn serving as president. She took great pride in making sure the altar cloths were spotless and the flower arrangements were kept fresh.

During this time, Ruby also was a member of the KJZT. Within the Columbus community, Ruby became a very active member of the Columbus Garden Club, also serving as president.

Ruby was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, grandma and friend to many people. Known as "Granny Ruby," she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing hide and seek, bingo, dominoes, cards, and anything else that they wanted to play. Her passions in life included sewing, painting, gardening and baking sweets for her family, friends, church, and organizations. Anything Ruby created, whether it was a dress, a pillow sham, a frame for a picture, or a batch of cookies, it may have been handmade, but it was professional--Ruby was a talented artist. She made the best pies, angel food cakes, poppy seed rolls, divinity, and cookies--she was a master with pastries. Ruby was happiest doing something for others and would stay up working on her many projects past the time when she should have been asleep. She loved her time in the country after her husband's retirement from Shell. They had a huge garden, a tank for fishing, and she canned the best bread & butter pickles. Anytime one entered Ruby's home, she never failed to have a delicious homemade sweet waiting for her children and grandchildren.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Ruby is survived by her children, Rosanne Pearson, Mark Litzmann (Barbara Frybert) and Marian Palazzolo (Vincent); grandchildren, Zane William Frybert Litzmann, Matthias Joseph Frybert Litzmann, Sarah Palazzolo, Joseph Palazzolo (fiancee Lois Strong), Leif Pearson (Melissa), Erin Jarmon (Josh) and Megan Schneider (Josh); great grandchildren, Coby Cranson, Christian Palazzolo, Wesley Jarmon, Jake Jarmon and Luke Pearson; and brother Leslie Koehl.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm at Henneke Funeral Home. A Parish Prayer Service & Rosary will begin at 6:00pm. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 10:00am at St. Anthony Catholic Church of Columbus with Fr. Augustine N. Asante officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Leif Pearson, Zane William Frybert Litzmann, Matthias Joseph Frybert Litzmann, Kenny Koehl, John Glueck and Josh Jarmon. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Palazzolo and Victor Edwards.

Ruby's family would like to thank all the people who have helped her especially Columbus Community Hospital, the Oaks Assisted Living, TLC and Resolutions Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anthony School Capital Campaign Fund, P.O. Box 669, Columbus, Texas 78934.
