Margaret Peters

September 4, 1922 - November 12, 2018

Margaret Peters passed away at the age of 96 in Columbus, Texas on November 12, 2018. Margaret was born to Henry Kenneth Clark and Alice Coleman Clark on September 4, 1922 in Provident City, Texas. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston in 1940. In April 1943 she married John H. Peters, Jr. After his discharge from the Air Force they both attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

They moved to Columbus in 1956 where they owned and operated Peters Tire Service until they retired in 1985. In her earlier years Margaret was also active in the art club, music club and garden club. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Columbus, and served as church secretary for many years. She also was a volunteer with the Columbus Hospital Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) and remained active in that capacity until two weeks prior to her passing.

Margaret is survived and will be missed by her son Stephen C. Peters and his wife Jana of Houston, by her daughter Cynthia Peters and her life partner Randal Brooks of Dallas, and by various cousins, nieces and nephews.

Margaret's celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 17 at the First United Methodist Church of Columbus followed by sandwiches at the Family Life Center across the street from the church. Visitation will be held at Henneke Funeral Home from 5PM to 7 PM Friday, November 16 and at the Church from 10AM to 11AM on Saturday morning before the service.
