Melvin Heinsohn, 93, passed away on October 31, 2018 in Columbus, Texas. He was born on July 26, 1925 in New Ulm, Texas to Otto and Flora (Rinn) Heinsohn. He married Janetta Schmidt on November 18, 1947.
Melvin worked many years as a gravel mining supervisor for Hanson Building Materials. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus and a member of W.O.W. He served his country during World War II in the Army.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Ronnie Ahlgrim and wife Patricia, sister Ottelia Peschel and husband Raymond, brothers-in-law Leroy Schmidt, Edwin Schmidt and wife Hilda, Elmo Schmidt and wife Mary and Sylvester Schmidt and wife Alma.
Melvin is survived by his daughters, Gloria Leopold (Victor), Sharon Hajovsky (Joe) and Susie Long (Jim), sister-in-law Hilda Krause, grandchildren, Gary Leopold (Sandra), Mike Leopold (Marlene), Rocky Leopold (Wanda), Scott Leopold (Julie), Jan Dicharry (Daryl), Susan Ellis, Donna Vaughn (Kevin), Brian Ahlgrim (Darla), Rhonda Smith (Stan), Kelly Watkins, Chelsea Long, Haley Long, Holly Long, Jamie Lee (Jeff) and Grant Long (Shelley), and numerous great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Nicholas Leopold, Marcus Leopold, Mitchel Leopold, Cort Leopold, Drew Leopold, Hayden Leopold and Bryce Leopold.
Visitation will be held at Henneke Funeral Home on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm and at the church on Monday from 9:00 am until 10:00 am. Funeral service will be Monday, November 5, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Columbus with Rev. Alan Kethan officiating. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery.
