Mary RoSharon Nichols

June 8, 1944 - August 3, 2018

Mary RoSharon Nichols was born on June 08, 1944 in Nacogdoches to Johnny Robert Hammock and Laverne Luman Hammock. She passed away peacefully on August 3rd, 2018 surrounded by her family and loved ones at her home in Columbus. She is finally at peace and with her parents and sisters in heaven after her 6 month battle with Cancer.

Sharon graduated from Silsbee High School in 1962 and married Joseph Lee Nichols Sr. They had three children together; Joseph Nichols Jr. who lives in Kempner Texas with his wife Pam who have a daughter Shandi and son Austin, Robert Nichols who lives in LaGrange Texas with his wife Lisa who have a son Taylor and daughter Krissy. Their daughter Penny Carmody lives in Bryan and has two sons Dillon Bartek and Barrett Carmody. Sharon has a great grandson Elias from her grandson Taylor and his wife Perla. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother.

Sharon was a member of the Eastern Star chapter in Navasota and a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher at the First Baptist Church in Santa Fe Texas in the 1970s, a Girls softball coach and president of the league in Columbus during the mid 1980s where she was instrumental in getting their first dedicated softball field. She was also a member of the Columbus Ambulance Corps and later the president in the mid to late 1980s. She was a Drug and Alcohol Counselor in the 1990s and her last job was as a Certified Medical Assistant at the Four Oaks Clinic.

Sharon joined with her Life Partner Patty Nelson in 1992. They laughed, loved, cried, talked and truly shared their life together.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister Thera Moore and younger sister Brenda Kay Primeaux. She is also survived by her sisters Billy Jones and Sheila Willis of Broaddus Texas, Sonja Hammock of Spring Texas and her brother Bobby Hammock and his wife Peggy of Cleveland Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

Sharon enjoyed working in her yard, taking care of her plants and having coffee with her friends. She loved spending time at the camp house where her extended family and her many friends gathered every June to celebrate her birthday. Sharon Always looked for the good in everyone, was compassionate, generous, and loved her family. Her beautiful smile will be forever etched on our hearts.

The family would also like to give a very special thank you to her Hospice Nurse Laura and Nurses Aides Teneisha and Jeanette from Hospice Brazos Valley who were truly compassionate and cared for Sharon by keeping her comfortable during her last few weeks while being there for her family with support, comfort and guidance.

Per Sharon's wishes she will be cremated and there will be no funeral services but there will be a private memorial service held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 N. Jefferson, La Grange, TX 78945.
